Dear Parent/Guardian: 

Your child’s school receives Federal Title I funds to assist students in meeting state achievement standards.  This letter lets you know about your right to request information about the qualifications of classroom staff working with your child and information about student assessments given during the school year. 

Title I schools must meet federal regulations related to teacher qualifications as defined in the ESEA (Elementary and Secondary Education Act). These regulations allow you to learn more about your child’s teachers’ training and credentials. At any time, you may ask: 

• If the teacher meets state qualifications and certification requirements for the grade level and subject he/she is teaching
• If the teacher has received an emergency or conditional certificate through which state qualifications were waived
• What undergraduate or graduate degrees the teacher holds, and major(s) or area(s) of concentration. 
• Whether your child receives help from a paraprofessional, and if so, his/her qualifications 

The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) which was signed into law in December 2015 and reauthorizes the ESEA, contains additional parent right to know requests, including: 

• Information on policies regarding student participation in assessments and procedures for opting out
• Information on required assessments including:  

• subject matter tested

• purpose of the test

• source of the requirement (if applicable)

• amount of time it takes students to complete the test

• time and format of disseminating results

All of the above information can be requested through your school principal.

Estimado Padre / Tutor: 

La escuela de su hijo recibe fondos federales del Título I para ayudar a los estudiantes a cumplir con los estándares estatales de rendimiento. Esta carta le informa sobre su derecho a solicitar información sobre las calificaciones del personal del salón de clases que trabaja con su hijo e información sobre las evaluaciones de los estudiantes que se dan durante el año escolar.

Las escuelas de Título I deben cumplir con las regulaciones federales relacionadas con las calificaciones de los maestros como se define en la ESEA (Ley de Educación Primaria y Secundaria). Estas regulaciones le permiten aprender más sobre la capacitación y las credenciales de los maestros de su hijo. En cualquier momento, puede preguntar:

● Si el maestro cumple con las calificaciones estatales y los requisitos de certificación para el nivel de grado y la materia que está enseñando.       

● Si el maestro recibió un certificado de emergencia o condicional a través del cual se renunciaron a las calificaciones estatales       

● Qué títulos de pregrado o posgrado tiene el maestro y especialización o área (s) de concentración       

● Si su hijo recibe ayuda de un paraprofesional y, de ser así, sus calificaciones       

 La Ley Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), que se convirtió en ley en diciembre de 2015 y reautoriza la ESEA, contiene el derecho adicional de los padres a conocer las solicitudes, que incluyen:

● Información sobre las políticas con respecto a la participación de los estudiantes en las evaluaciones y los procedimientos para optar por no participar.       

● Información sobre evaluaciones requeridas que incluyen:         

• tema probado
• propósito de la prueba
• fuente del requisito (si corresponde)
• cantidad de tiempo que les toma a los estudiantes completar la prueba
• tiempo y formato de difusión de los resultados

 Toda la información anterior se puede solicitar a través del director de su escuela.
